5-Minute Quickstart

If you only read one thing, read this.

Atlas does two things: it tells you who already holds your ticker (so you can deepen the relationship) and who looks just like them but doesn't yet (so you can close the gap). Everything else in this manual is a sharper version of one of those two ideas.

"I just want to start hunting today."
Open Today's Plays. Atlas has already done the work — five high-probability conversations are sitting there with the talking point baked in.
"Who currently holds my ETF?"
Type your ticker. Get every 13F-disclosed holder, ranked by position size. Filter by custodian, AUM, state.
"Who's about to leave a competitor?"
Conviction Decay flags advisors trimming positions for two consecutive quarters — they're in-market right now.
"Who looks like my best clients but doesn't hold me?"
Peer Clusters finds statistical twins of your current holders who haven't bought yet. The cleanest lookalike audience in the industry.
Jobs to Be Done

Pick the question. We'll point you at the feature.

Wholesalers don't care about feature lists. They care about answers. Here's every question Atlas answers and which feature gets you there.

Who should I call today?
Atlas pre-computes the highest-leverage conversations every morning at 7am ET.
Who's adding to my ticker fastest?
Momentum ranks the 3,821 firms with 13F filings by 4-quarter velocity. Top of the list = the relationships you should be defending.
Who else owns what my holders own?
Overlap Matrix shows co-holding patterns. If your holders all own X, the people who own X are your warmest cold list.
Who's quietly switching styles?
Style Drift catches the 106 firms pivoting value↔growth — they're rebuilding their mix and open to new ideas.
Which RIAs are big enough to matter?
ADV Part 1 enrichment exposes 42,518 firms with AUM, client types, business lines, and discretionary status.
Is this advisor clean?
Disciplinary flags surface 15,921 FINRA/SEC disclosures so you don't accidentally pitch someone with a regulatory cloud.
Has this advisor been on podcasts?
Podcast History tells you who's a media voice — perfect warm intro angle ("I heard you on…")
Whose territory was just filed?
Newly Filed shows fresh 13F filings in the past 7 days. First-mover advantage on the latest holdings data.
Where's the heat in my book?
Velocity Heatmap shows your ticker's geographic concentration of adds vs trims by state.
The Full Arsenal

All 18 features, explained without bullshit.

Each feature has a TL;DR for skimmers, a "How to use it" for operators, and a "When to call it in" for the strategic moment that makes it lethal. Look for the badges showing which audience benefits most.

📈
FEATURE 01 · INTELLIGENCE
Holdings Momentum Score
Issuer Strategy Wholesaler
TL;DR: Ranks the 3,821 firms with 13F filings by how fast they're adding your ticker over 4 quarters. The top of the list is the people you can't afford to lose.

How to use it

Open the Intelligence tab → click 📈 Momentum. Filter by your ticker. The list is pre-sorted by velocity — biggest adds at the top, biggest trims at the bottom. Click any firm to see the position size and the wholesaler-ready talking point.

When to call it in

Monday morning. Before territory planning. Before a wholesaler conference. Any time you need to know "who's loving us right now" — the answer is in the top 20 rows.

🔗
FEATURE 02 · INTELLIGENCE
Competitive Overlap Matrix
Issuer Strategy
TL;DR: Reveals which tickers your holders also own. The intersection is your warmest cold list.

How to use it

Click 🔗 Overlap Matrix. Select your ticker. Atlas computes co-occurrence across every 13F filer — if 60% of BTAL holders also own TAIL, that's your introduction angle, your panel pairing, and your ad targeting all in one number.

When to call it in

Planning a webinar lineup. Sourcing a panel for an advisor dinner. Building lookalike audiences. Pitching a competitor's holders.

📉
FEATURE 03 · INTELLIGENCE
Conviction Decay Alerts
Wholesaler
TL;DR: 32 firms are quietly trimming positions for 2+ consecutive quarters. They're rethinking. Catch them before the competitor does.

How to use it

Open 📉 Conviction Decay. The list is short on purpose — only firms with multi-quarter declining patterns. Each row tells you the ticker being trimmed, the velocity of the trim, and contact info for the PM.

When to call it in

Right now. Decay signals are perishable — once they've fully exited, the conversation is gone. Wholesalers should run this view every Monday and own the alert list for the week.

🌊
FEATURE 04 · INTELLIGENCE
Style Drift Detection
Wholesaler
TL;DR: 106 firms are pivoting between value and growth based on their 13F holdings mix. They're rebuilding — and rebuilders buy new ideas.

How to use it

Click 🌊 Style Drift. Each row shows the firm, their drift direction (value→growth or vice versa), and the magnitude. Filter to match your fund's style — if you're a value shop, hunt the growth→value drifters.

When to call it in

When you've exhausted your existing pipeline. When a style shift in the market is creating new urgency (e.g., post-rate-cut, post-correction). Drifters are uniquely open right now.

👥
FEATURE 05 · INTELLIGENCE
Peer-Cluster Prospecting
Issuer Strategy Wholesaler
TL;DR: Finds advisors who look statistically identical to your current holders — same AUM band, same custodian, same style, same client types — but don't hold you yet. The cleanest lookalike audience in asset management.

How to use it

Open 👥 Peer Clusters. Atlas has pre-built clusters across 10 client tickers. Pick yours, see the matched non-holders, and export the list to CSV with one click.

When to call it in

When you're ready to scale outbound. Cold lists are dead — peer-cluster lists are warm before you've sent a single email.

📄
FEATURE 06 · ENRICHMENT
Form ADV Part 2 Brochure Parser
Auto-Refreshed
TL;DR: A daily cron parses every newly-filed Part 2 brochure from SEC IAPD and extracts investment philosophy keywords and fee schedules — so you know what each RIA actually believes before the first call.

How to use it

Open any firm detail page. The "Philosophy" and "Fees" sections are auto-populated from the latest brochure. Search for keywords like "tactical" or "factor-based" to find RIAs whose stated style matches your fund.

When to call it in

Pre-call research. Compliance pre-check. Pitch personalization — quoting a firm's own brochure language is the fastest credibility move there is.

📋
FEATURE 07 · ENRICHMENT
Form ADV Part 1 Enrichment
Issuer Strategy 42,518 firms
TL;DR: Every RIA's regulatory questionnaire — AUM, discretionary status, client types (HNW: 22,038 / Pension: 5,238 / Mutual Fund: 7,615), business lines (Portfolio Mgmt: 30,292 / Planning: 18,319). The single richest segmentation field in the database.

How to use it

Open 📋 ADV Part 1. Stack filters: HNW + Discretionary + $500M+ AUM = your tier-1 target list. Save the search and Atlas will email you when new firms match.

When to call it in

Building a launch campaign. Defining a wholesaler territory. Sizing a TAM. Anything that requires segmentation, do it from ADV Part 1 — not LinkedIn guesses.

⚠️
FEATURE 08 · ENRICHMENT
IAPD Disciplinary Flags
Compliance
TL;DR: 15,921 disciplinary disclosures from FINRA/SEC public records, surfaced on every individual's profile. Don't get caught pitching someone your compliance team would have blocked.

How to use it

Every individual profile has a "Disciplinary" badge if any flags exist. Click ⚠️ Disciplinary for the full searchable list. Use the filter to exclude flagged advisors from any export.

When to call it in

Before every cold email batch. Before every podcast booking. Before every advisor dinner invite. Compliance is cheaper to do upfront than to undo.

📰
FEATURE 09 · OVERLAP
Substack Subscriber Match
Issuer Strategy
TL;DR: Cross-references advisor emails against Substack subscriber lists. If they already read The Lead-Lag Report (or other finance publications), they're 10× warmer than a cold name.

How to use it

Upload your target list. Atlas matches against the connected Substack subscriber database and flags overlaps. Send the flagged subset first — they already trust the source.

When to call it in

Any outbound campaign where warm matters. Sponsor outreach. Webinar invites. Conference dinner targeting.

🎙️
FEATURE 10 · OVERLAP
Podcast Appearance History
Wholesaler
TL;DR: Tracks which advisors have been guests on finance podcasts. Media voices are influence nodes — landing them is force-multiplied.

How to use it

Open 🎙️ Podcast History. Filter by show, by date range, or by topic. Use the "I heard you on…" angle in your first email — it's the highest-converting opener in cold outreach.

When to call it in

Sourcing podcast guests for your own show. Identifying KOLs in a category. Personalizing high-stakes outreach.

🔔
FEATURE 11 · PLATFORM
Saved Searches with Daily Alerts
Wholesaler
TL;DR: Stack any filter combination, save it, and Atlas emails you the moment new firms match. Stop hunting — let the prospects come to you.

How to use it

Build a filter (e.g., "HNW + $1B+ AUM + Schwab custodian + adding BTAL"). Hit Save. Name it. Pick your delivery cadence. Done. The alert fires daily at 7am ET.

When to call it in

Once. Set them up once on Day 1 and they run forever. Smart wholesalers maintain 5-10 saved searches covering their entire territory.

📑
FEATURE 13 · PLATFORM
Custom Shared Lists
Team
TL;DR: Build a list once. Share it with your wholesaler team. Everyone hunts the same set. Annotations sync across users.

How to use it

Create a list (e.g., "Northeast Tier 1"). Add advisors from any view. Invite teammates by email. Everyone sees the same status flags ("called," "meeting set," "passed").

When to call it in

Multi-wholesaler firms. Conference targeting. Coordinated campaigns where you don't want two reps calling the same advisor.

📊
FEATURE 14 · PLATFORM
Activity Attribution Tracking
Analytics
TL;DR: Every action — search, push, export, click — is logged with a user ID and timestamp. You can finally answer "which wholesaler is actually using Atlas?"

How to use it

Admins open the Activity tab. See per-user engagement: searches run, lists built, exports pulled, conversion to meetings booked. Sort by ROI.

When to call it in

Quarterly performance reviews. Renewal conversations. ROI proof for the issuer client paying for Atlas.

💎
FEATURE 15 · PLATFORM
Per-Issuer Pricing Tiers
Commercial
TL;DR: Atlas ships with three tiers — Bronze $2K, Silver $5K, Gold $15K — each unlocking different feature depth, seat counts, and export limits.

How to use it

Bronze = read-only access for one user. Silver = saved searches, CSV exports, 3 seats. Gold = peer clusters, API access, unlimited seats, custom integrations.

When to call it in

Start every new issuer on Silver. Upsell to Gold when they've maxed seats or want API access for their CRM.

⚙️
FEATURE 16 · PLATFORM
JSON API Endpoints
Developer
TL;DR: Eight live intel endpoints under /api/. Pipe Atlas straight into Salesforce, HubSpot, internal dashboards, or a wholesaler's CRM.

How to use it

Hit https://atlas.leadlagmedia.com/api/manifest.json for the full endpoint list. Each endpoint returns clean JSON — momentum, decay, drift, overlap, peers, adv1, flags, podcast. Cache-friendly, refreshed hourly.

When to call it in

When an enterprise client wants Atlas data inside their existing tools instead of a separate login.

💬
FEATURE 17 · PLATFORM
Slack / Teams Bot
Field
TL;DR: A Slack bot that lets wholesalers type "/atlas Jane Smith" and get the full advisor profile right in their messaging app. No browser, no login, no friction.

How to use it

Add the Atlas bot to your Slack workspace. Type /atlas followed by a name, firm, or ticker. Get instant results inline.

When to call it in

Mobile wholesalers. Field reps between meetings. Anyone who lives in Slack and hates context-switching.

📰
FEATURE 18 · CONTENT
Atlas Index Weekly Newsletter
Marketing

How to use it

Subscribe at the Atlas Index Substack. Forward to advisors as a value-first warm-touch. Wholesalers, use the weekly stat as your Monday morning conversation starter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything else.

How fresh is the data?

13F filings: refreshed monthly on the 1st (cron 498e91dc). ADV Part 2 brochures: refreshed daily at 03:00 UTC (cron a8368854). Email enrichment: continuous via Apollo + Lusha. Atlas itself auto-deploys whenever the underlying database changes — usually within 60 minutes.

What if an advisor's profile is wrong?

Atlas pulls from SEC IAPD, FINRA, public 13Fs, and verified email providers. If something looks wrong, it's almost always wrong upstream — but flag it and we'll override in the local DB.

Can I export advisor lists to CSV?

Yes, but you usually shouldn't. The one-click Smartlead push (Feature 12) is faster, dedupes automatically, and respects the cross-channel block. CSV exports are for compliance audits, not workflow.

How is Atlas different from Discovery Data or Meridian-IQ?

Three things. (1) Holdings intelligence — momentum, decay, drift, peer clusters — none of the legacy databases compute these. (2) Speed — Atlas refreshes daily, legacy tools refresh quarterly. (3) Workflow — one-click push to Smartlead, saved searches, shared lists. Legacy tools are databases. Atlas is a hunting system.

Is Atlas compliant with FINRA/SEC outreach rules?

Atlas surfaces data. You're responsible for what you send. The disciplinary flags (Feature 8) help you stay clean, but every issuer should run their own compliance review on outbound copy.

Does Atlas integrate with my CRM?

Direct integrations: Smartlead (Feature 12). Via API: Salesforce, HubSpot, anything that consumes JSON (Feature 16). Slack/Teams: Feature 17.

How do I take the interactive tour again?

Click the floating "?" button in the bottom-right corner of Atlas, then choose "Replay Tour."

Who do I contact for support?

Michael Gayed, CFA — michaelgayed@leadlagmedia.com. Atlas is built and operated by Lead-Lag Media.

Now go hunt.
